Zen for the Rest of your Days

Earlier this year I talked about how I want to make 2020 a year of zen. It can be hard in this day and age to find some peace in the everyday stresses of life. Here are a few simple ways to add a little zen to your days! 

  • Take a social media break 
    • Trust me, it is sometimes nice to unplug!

  • Mediate 
    • Regardless of your religion, everyone can take the time to silence your mind through praying or breathing techniques. There are so many options and varieties to meditation. This guided meditation video by Carolina Williams is my personal favorite (disclaimer: it focuses on more of a Christian approach to meditation).
  • Exercise 
    • Honestly, the best way to combat stress in my personal opinion. Yoga, go for a walk, lift some weights, the options are endless! Looking for an awesome free workout series? Check out FitnessBlender!

  • Read 
    • There are a ton of free books for Kindle, or borrow one from your local library. Reading my blog is a good option too! If you are religious, dive into The Bible.

  • Journal 
    • I feel expressing my thoughts on paper helps me unwind. You can use a journal as a Prayer Journal, goal tracker, a way to write down your frustrations, anything really! Looking for a template to get started? Check out my blog, Sunny Side of Life Challenge!

  • “Hang out” with friends  
    • If you can meet up with a friend, great! If not there are other virtual options (FaceTime, Skype, etc.). During the beginning of the pandemic (and when the weather in Phoenix was better), my best pal and I would order Starbucks and sit in our cars and talk.

  • Have a glass of your favorite drink 
    • As important as it is to stay hydrated and drink water, don’t forget it’s okay to indulge every now and then. Enjoy a glass of wine, drink a milkshake or when you are drinking your coffee, just focus on the moment and unplug from stress.

  • Watch your favorite TV show 
    • We live in the world of endless TV and movie options. Sometimes playing your favorite show can help relieve stress or try something new!

  • Get creative – paint, draw, color! 
    • We live in a world that doesn’t always allow for creativity. Channel your inner Picasso and get creative!

  • Treat Yourself 
    • Eat ice cream, buy that bag you have your eye on. It’s okay to have fun every once in a while! 

Now more than ever, it’s necessary to find ways to unwind. I feel like I am just scratching the surface of ways to add zen into your life! What is your favorite way to destress? Let me know!
