Colorado Springs, Colorado

Oh my, Colorado, you are truly one of the most beautiful states I have been to! Actually the first trip Nate and I took together was to Denver, Colorado, so I would say the state has a special spot in my heart. Nate and I have been to Denver a few times now, but we kept hearing how Colorado Springs is the place to visit right now. According to US News & World Report, Colorado Springs is currently one of the Top 5 Best Places to Live in the USA. On top of that our favorite restaurant, Lazy Dog just opened a location in Colorado Springs and we had airline credit, we figured we would kick off the Christmas season with a fun weekend getaway.

If you are planning a trip to Colorado Springs, here’s a list of what Nate and I enjoyed this past weekend that we think you might enjoy too!

  • Garden of the Gods
    • Who said you can only find Red Rocks in Arizona? The Garden of the Gods was breathtaking. I love how this beautiful piece of the world is free for all visitors.
  • Manitou Springs
    • Where the springs get its name! There are 8 mineral water fountains for the public to try. It was fun walking around Manitou Springs and seeing and trying the spring water.
    • Radiantly Raw Chocolate
      • There is gluten, dairy and soy free chocolate factory and I discovered it here in Manitou Springs! I was literally a kid in a candy store with all the fun chocolates that were safe for me to eat! They ship so if you’re looking for a gift for me for Christmas, buy me this chocolate.
    • Red Dog Coffee
      • This dog themed cafe serves up some great treats! From Lavender Mimosas to food options (including allergy friendly treats), I could have spent all day watching the dogs and people walk by. You have to add this cafe to your list of things to see in Colorado Springs!
  • Free Wine Tasting at The Wines of Colorado
    • If you want to mingle with the locals, this is the place to go! They serve food in the front, but have a free wine tasting in the back. I had no idea Colorado Springs had a huge wine scene! All the wines at the tasting are from Colorado.
  • Downtown Colorado Springs
    • Festival of Lights – Christmas Parade
      • Colorado Springs Festival of Lights Parade was so fun! The parade made you feel as if you somehow were in a Hallmark Movie. The whole community participated in this event.
    • Pikes Peak Lemonade
      • Pikes Peak Lemonade has the cutest wall of coffee mugs and they have great products! They were serving almond milk hot chocolate along with their other great natural, clean lemonades!
  • Old Colorado City
    • The Sweet Elephant – Vino Colorado Winery
      • This was our favorite part of Old Colorado City! This adorable cafe serves food, coffee and their award winning wine. All the wines are made in Colorado, their labels are designed by local artist, and on top of all that some of the proceeds from the wines go to the animals at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. We loved the staff and enjoyed the wine tasting and a glass of wine in their Grotto (indoor) Patio. Highly recommend! Tell Justin we sent ya!
  • Shopping
  • Cheyenne Mountain Zoo – Electric Zoo
    • I think this is one of the most beautiful zoos I have ever been to! The zoo sits on the mountain, and at night you can see all the city lights of Colorado Springs. It was clear how much they love and care for their animals here at this zoo. The zoo had so many cool animal encounters during the Electric Zoo, we were able to get up close and personal with giraffes and one of the giraffes even kissed me on the head. Truly a memorable night!

There is so much to do in Colorado Springs! Truthfully Nate and I could have spent a week there checking out everything the city has to offer. I didn’t even get around to talking about all the outdoor activities has to offer, like climbing Pikes Peak! Even if you aren’t an outdoor activities kind of person, there is something for everyone in Colorado Springs. I think the thing I loved most about Colorado Springs is the fact that it has a small town charm, but all the amenities of a big city! I will say I was impressed that everywhere in Colorado Springs was knowledgeable about food allergies. I was blown away how every restaurant seems to have options that were gluten, dairy and soy free. Also there are dogs everywhere so what more do you need? If you are looking for a fun weekend getaway, look no further than Colorado Springs, Colorado!
