Prescott, Arizona: Christmas Events 2019

When most people think of Arizona, they think of hot weather and cacti. What many people don’t know is that it actually snows in some parts of Arizona! Just an hour and a half to two hours away from the Phoenix Metro area is cooler weather and, in the winter time, a snowy wonderland! One of the places that snows and that happens to be one of my family’s favorite places in the state is Prescott, Arizona, also known as Arizona’s Christmas City!

My family and I love going to Prescott, especially during the holiday season! Sledding in the snow and enjoying all the town’s holiday festivities; we even got snowed in on time on New Year’s Day! Some of my favorite memories with my family come from time spent together in Arizona’s Christmas City. This small town will make you feel like a local with all their fun holiday festivities and welcoming hospitality.

As you know, Nate and I love to travel; however, I have recently received a ton of requests for fun and local things to do in Arizona. I felt it was only fitting to kick off the Christmas season with a blog dedicated to local things to do in Arizona’s Christmas City! Here is a list of some of the fun holiday activities to do in Prescott, Arizona:

  • Valley of Lights
    • November 28th-December 30th, 2019
    • 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
      • Donations appreciated Grab your hot cocoa and pile into the car for the best drive thru Christmas lights you and your family will see this holiday season! Maybe I’m biased, but Nate and I agree this is the best drive thru light display in Arizona!

Downtown Prescott and Courthouse Plaza

  • 37th Annual Christmas Parade
    • December 7th, 2019
    • 1:00 pm-3:00 pm
      • This small town sure knows how to do a parade right! See the community come together in the timeless tradition – from local school marching bands, to shelter dogs walking the parade route. Even my dog Bear loved this parade! This parade will put a smile on your face.
  • 65th Annual Courthouse Lighting
    • December 7th, 2019
    • 6:00 pm-6:30 pm
      • Perhaps my favorite Christmas Tradition of all. The event has local school groups singing Christmas carols on the steps of the courthouse and the city even reads the story of Jesus’ birth.
          • Can’t make it to the Courthouse lighting? The Courthouse will be decorated with Christmas lights until January 19th, 2020.
  • Sharlot Hall Museum Annual Frontier Christmas
    • December 6th, 2019
    • Following the Courthouse Lighting
      • Free for Museum members and 17 years old and under; $5 for non-members. Be transported back in time when Prescott was the Territorial Capital of Arizona. Visit the oldest cabin in Arizona and meet some of Arizona’s historical figures walking around. It’s a fun way to be reminded of Christmas of yesteryear.
  • Acker Night
    • December 13th, 2019
    • 5:30 pm-8:30 pm
      • Local business and musicians fill Downtown Prescott with Christmas cheer! If you talk to the local businesses, they will all tell you this is their favorite event of the year!
  • Whiskey Row Boot Drop
    • December 31st, 2019
    • 8 pm-12:30 am
      • Who needs Times Square when you can see a Cowboy Boot Drop? I love ringing in the New Year on Whiskey Row. The boot drop twice on New Years Eve, once at 10 pm and again at midnight. This event is fun for the whole family!

Heritage Park Zoological Sanctuary

  • Wildlights and Animal Sights
    • November 29th-December 28th, 2019 (Friday & Saturday Evenings)
    • 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

      • Santa is coming to the zoo! Get into the holiday spirit and spend the day with the zoo’s animals and Santa!

Prescott Gateway Mall

  • Enchanted Christmas – Indoor Tour of Lights
    • November 29th-December 30th, 2019
      • $5 per person, kids are free and if you bring in a canned food donation you’ll receive $1.00 off admission.
      • The weather outside is frightful, but the Enchanted Christmas lights are delightful. Stay warm and enjoy different rooms each filled with unique displays. This has become one of Nate and I’s favorite Christmas Traditions!

Prescott Resort and Conference Center

  • Annual Gingerbread Village Display

      • This event will get you in a baking mode! Check out this amazing display in the Resort’s lobby. You’re in for a treat with this event!

I hope I inspired you to visit Arizona’s Christmas City! Some of these events have become a part of my family’s holiday traditions. Maybe this year these holiday festivities in Prescott, Arizona will become a part of your family’s holiday traditions too. Have you been to any of these festivities or now planning on checking out Prescott this holiday season this year? Let me know!

Whether you’re near or far from Arizona’s Christmas City, I hope this holiday season is filled with magical moments for you and your loved ones. I hope new fun memories are made, ones that you will remember for years to come. Happy Holidays!
