Sunny Side of Summertime: Sunscreen

Hello sweet summertime! If you grew up in Arizona like I have, you know it’s been engraved in your mind to protect yourself from the sun. Easy enough, drink water to stay hydrated and wear a hat and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes. Oh, what’s the other really important thing to put on? Sunscreen. If you are in the beginning stages of eliminating certain foods from your diet because of a food allergy or an autoimmune disease; not only do you have to eliminate certain foods because you are allergic, but you have to change your beauty products too. Yes, some lotions, makeup and sunscreens contain gluten, dairy and soy among other top allergens. You have to read your labels! Now that temperatures are in the triple digits it’s time to put on that sunscreen!

I wear sunscreen every day! It’s so important for not only protecting your skin from skin cancer, but if you want to look young forever, you have to wear sunscreen! Here are a few of my favorite brands that are gluten, dairy & soy free:

Perhaps the cutest looking sunscreen out there. I actually discovered this brand by looking for a leave in conditioner for my hair to protect it from the sun and chlorine. All their products are gluten, dairy & soy free. They don’t test on animals, which is another super important trait in a product for me (I’ve been using cruelty free products before I had food restrictions). If the cute logo isn’t enough for you to buy, the products have a pretty smell. I’m not sure how to describe it other than it smells like vacation.

My mom introduced me to this brand and we all know mom knows best! Alba Botanica has tons of skin care products, but my favorite has to be their sun protection products. Strange Diet approved, cruelty free, no synthetic fragrances, and reef friendly, you can’t help but feel good when wearing this product. My personal favorite is the Soothing Sunscreen Pure Lavender Lotion SPF 45. This brand has a huge line of beauty products, but with their sun skincare line they have everything, from sensitive skin sunscreen, lip care, aloe vera, to body lotion that has SPF in it. You have to check out this great brand!

I actually received this Full Spectrum 360 Degree Sun Silk Drops Organic Sunscreen SPF 30 complimentary for testing purposes and I instantly fell in love with it. I love how natural and lightweight it feels. Coola has a variety of other products such as self tanners and BB cream. What’s neat about the Full Spectrum 360 Degree Sun Silk Drops Organic Sunscreen SPF 30 is that you add a few drops to your moisturizer or foundation, mix it together and apply directly to your face. I highly recommend this product along with all the other products this brand caries.

There are some other great sunscreen brands that are allergy friendly! I have personally been impressed and use the three I mentioned in this blog post. Do you have a favorite allergy friendly, “cleaner” sunscreen? Let me know! I’d love to check it out! Until then, enjoy the Sunny Side of Summertime and enjoy that sunshine, just be sure you put on your sunscreen.
