Wow can you believe it’s already May? I don’t know about you, but I feel like 2019 is flying by, and before you know it we’ll be singing Christmas carols and reflecting on the year. Piggybacking on my most recent post, sometimes days can be rough, heck sometimes it’s a struggle making it through the month, but you did it! Just remember April showers bring May flowers, so if the month of April was a downpour, blessings are on the horizon for you this month my friend!
2019 has been such an exciting year for me from launching my blog, to traveling, to some really exciting opportunities that I cannot wait to share with you all very soon. I am truly grateful for God’s blessings. I hope 2019 has been wonderful for you too. No matter if you’re dancing in sunshine or trying to navigate a storm, having a mind of gratitude will help make any season more enjoyable.
With the start of a new month, take the time to reflect on yourself. Are you meeting your New Year’s Resolution? Are you fueling your body properly? Even if you didn’t set any goals in January, it’s never too late to set a goal for yourself!
I have two challenges for you in the month of May. Are you up for it? It’s really simple, but I have truly found the key to looking at the Sunny Side of Life is to invest in yourself both physically and mentally. Especially with May being Mental Awareness Month I want us all to have a wonderful and happy month.
Challenge #1 – 31 Days of Gratefulness
My first challenge for you is to write down 1 thing you are thankful for each day. Now I know it’s already May 5th but it’s only been a couple days, I have total faith in you that you can think of a few things that have already brought you joy. Why am I asking you to do this task? Every day might not be good, but there is good in every day. Taking the time to see the goodness in your life will help get your mindset to thinking more positive about what curveballs might come your way. Plus it’s fun to reflect at the end of the month on all the blessings and things that made you smile. It doesn’t have to be a long sentence, it can even be a simple thing like getting to shop at your favorite grocery store alone! If you are feeling extra blessed one day write down two blessings! Check out what I am currently thankful for this month:
- Finding cute and comfy shoes for my upcoming NYC trip
- Working from home
- Spending time with my dog Bear
- Dinner with my family
- New blog post!
Challenge #2 – Goal Getter
The second challenge I have for you is to write down one goal. It does not have to be anything crazy like hiking down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon (my boyfriend did it a week ago and his knees are now jelly); however, it does have to be specific as well as realistic. Why does it have to be specific and realistic? If you just say work out more, there’s no sense of direction and you will fall off the horse. If you make the challenge unobtainable you’ll just be disappointed in yourself that you didn’t achieve your goal. Here are a few examples of specific and realistic goals: work out 3 times a week, make lunches for the 5 day work week the night before, or wake up an hour earlier each day to spend time in prayer or meditating. Fulfilling a goal is so satisfying plus according to Psychology Today, you’ll get a big dose of dopamine for achieving it!
Grab a notebook and write down your goal and your 31 things you are grateful for this month! If you want you can use my template to help you get started if you don’t have a notebook on hand. Bonus points at the end of the month if you email me your completed list. I want to celebrate life with you! If you want you can even share one or five of the things you are thankful for this month or the goal you are working towards this month in the comments.
May your May be wonderful, full of blessings & sunshine. May your May allow you to look at The Sunny Side of Life no matter what curve balls come your way.
